4to. (385 x 278 mm). Bound period style by Durvano in plain grey paste paper covered boards, the backstrip, gilt-lettered and glazed in imitation of leather; Ff. A1 Half-title, A2 Title page, A3 ‘Dedication’, A4 ‘Advertisement’, B1-D2 ‘Description Of The Plates’, 20 engraved aquatint plates printed in sepia, numbered 1-20, all but 19-20 depicting picturesque views of each design with a ground-plan beneath. Plates 19-20 are devoted to a moat-house project, the former showing plans for the ground floor and upper story, the latter a large aquatint perspective view of the design; inserted loose an original architectural scaled drawing in pencil, pen and ink of a kiosk-like structure; the head and tail of the backstrip a little rubbed and chipped with slight loss, front and rear hinges lightly rubbed with a little paper loss at the head and tail, slight surface split to the front hinge, corners very lightly bumped, a short (2cm) closed tear to the lower margin of plate 5 not impinging on the platemark, the edges of the text block lightly age-toned, otherwise a particularly sound, bright copy.
Provenance: Comte Raymond de Nicolay (1900-1940), with his twentieth-century engraved armorial bookplate and the printed book label of the library at Chateau Regniere-Ecluse, the family estate, to the front pastedown.
